Youth Activities:

All Youth Activities are free. If a program has a * the children will be riding the YMCA Bus and it will be leaving from the grade school. To sign up for programs, please call 673-2443,  or e-mail info@1881courthousemuseum.com. To ride the YMCA bus children must have a signed permission slip.  Permission Slips available at the Museum. 


June 23, at 10:00 am
Come and Have Fun Playing Old-Fashioned Games

The Museum's courtyard will be filled with sound of laughter while children will play different    games from the past. The Museum's JR Docents will be designing and operating the games for the children.

June 30, at 8:30 am
The Story of the Mustang in the West*

Explore the Wide West by learning about the Mustang. Andy Kelford has invited the children to his ranch. To learn about the horse who was a major part of the wide west. The YMCA bus will leave Custer Grade school at 8:30 am.

July 14, at 8:30 am
Take a Tour though the Shamrock Mine*

Pacer Corporation is inviting children to take a tour of the Shamrock Mine. Mining has been a major part of the history of the Custer area. The children will learn How Pacer is taking old abandon mines and reclaiming them in cooperation with the US Forest Service. The  YMCA bus well leave  Custer Grade school at 8:30 am.

Remembering the  Paha Sapa Pageant (Pageant Hill )

For many years the Paha Sapa Pageant was a big part of the Gold Discovery Days celebration.    Children will learn and see parts of the pageant. The Gold Discovery Days committee will reenact different dances. The activity will be held on Pageant Hill.

July 28, at 8:30 am -  Learn the art of Gold Panning*
The children will visit at Custer State Park and learn how to gold pan. Learn about the early gold pannier's such as Horatio N. Ross and Aunt Sally (Sarah) Campbell. Also how the finding of gold in French Creek helped to establish the City of Custer. The YMCA bus will leave Custer Grade school at 8:30 am.

July 2 – 4, 2010
Custer - Old Time Country Fair – Courthouse Museum

Art, craft, antiques, children's activities, children's July of 4 parade down Maim Street, lost art demonstrations, and entertainment from 12 to 5. The 4th of July Kids Parade will start at 1:00 pm. The rout of the parade is down Mt Rushmore Rd from the Chamber office to the Museum. Following the parade Phil Baker will be performing for the children from 1:30 to 2:30. On July 4 there will be a Chuck Wagon dinner from 2:00 to 6:00, for $12 for Adults, children 4 to 10 $6 and children 3 and under free. (605) 673-2443

Custer - The Haunting of the Museum and Halloween Carnival, Courthouse Museum

Ghosts and goblins spook families on a Museum tour for $3 and  Halloween games at the carnival, 10 cents a game. 673-2443
